FFIX was very different from the two previous PSX versions - FFVII and FVIII. It had a whole new style, going back to the fantasy style rather than the more western look. It also had much more Moogles/Mogs than the previous two. Although its not the absolute favourite amoung FFfans, it was a very good addition to the FF series. Zidane Tribal is a member of Tantalus, a group of theives who want to kidnap Princess Garnet of Alexandria. They kidnap her only to find that she already was trying to run away from the castle. They meet a young black mage named Vivi who has some powerful magic spells at his disposol. They travel on a journey through the world where they will meet monsters, moogles and mages. They meet lots of allies including Quina the cook thing, Freya the jumping mouse thing, Eiko the summoner and lots of other people. All the characters learn lots about their pasts and develop very well. The storyline is very engaging and exiciting and its very addictive. The gameplay is very similar to that of the previous games, but IX does have some new features such as pop up question/exclamation marks at items or things. Another addition is the ATE when a little box appears at the bottom left of the screen. Pressing 'select' will show you what other characters are doing at that time. The Limit breaks are now called Trances, were your character has a temporaly boost in power and can also perform different techniques. GFs are still there, but only in the form of very quick magic spells and can only be performed by Garnet or Eiko after the 1st disk. There are a lot of mini-games including the Mognet, a type of post for Moogles, Chocobo Hot and Cold which is a digging up treasure game and the card game which is similar to the Triple Triad from FFVIII. | Zidane (Zi-dan) Zidane is a member of a theiving group called Tantalus who kidnap the princess. He has a tail like a monkey! |
| Vivi (Vee-Vee) Vivi is a confused child black mage. He holds incredibly powerful black magic spells. |
| Princess Garnet/ Dagger (gar-net/dagg- er) Princess Garnet is Princess of Alexandria. She is also a white mage who can summon forces too. |
| Steiner (Stein-ner) Steiner is a knight whos duty is to protect Garnet. He often complaines and no one really likes him much. |
| Eiko (Ehy-ko) Eiko is a child who was brought up by Moogles. Shes a born summoner and still has her horn. |
| Beatrix (Beer-tricks) Beatrix is another knight of Alexandria, who first appears as an enemy but soon joins the odd party. |
| Baku (Bah-koo) Baku is the leader of tantalus and sent Zidane out to capture Princess Garnet in the first place. |
| Amarant (Ah-ma-rant) Amarant is a bounty hunter with lots of red hair. He also later joins the party. |
| Quina (Queen-na) Quina is a starnge looking creature from a clan in the swamp. It loves to eat frogs and often defeats enemies by eating them. (!!!) |
| Freya (Frey-ya) Freya is a Dragon Knight. She is very wise and has many spells and attacks so is a worthy member of the party. |
