On the way to Switzerland, we stopped at the Black Forest Open-Air Museum.  It offered the best look at this regions traditional folk life.   These farm houses reminded me of historical Japanese farm houses near my home town.

Rick Steves Tour always uses the buddy system to account for everyones quick presence for the group outing.  Rolinka had assigned buddies based on our birthdays; Vicki was my buddy.  On the long bus ride to Switzerland, Rolinka used the time to introduce our buddies.  Vicki and I had gotten acquainted with each other at the cool pool at the Roman-Irish Bath the day before.  Everyone introduced his or her buddy in such entertaining ways.  It was a good way to kill our time on the bus.

We checked into the lakefront hotel in Murten just in time for the group dinner.  Rolinka showed up at the dinner table wearing her beautiful Tyrolean dress.

Rolinka assigned me a room with an old round bed which some people came to see out of curiosity.  No massage, though.  Out of my window I could see the quiet street, half moon, and the town castle which apparently housed the police station in a former prison.
Our bus took us to the medieval castle, Chateau de Chillon.  It sat at the edge of Lake Geneva with the scenic mountain range in the background.  It was a remarkably well-preserved castle.  After the tour we joined "Mama Rolinka" (odd to call her so when she could be my daughters age) in the preparation of our lakefront picnic.  After the picnic lunch, we took a ferry across the Lake Geneva to Vevey where our driver Mark was waiting for us to take us back to Murten.
