The world is too dangerous to live in — not because of the people who do evil, but because of the people who sit and let it happen. (Albert Einstein)

Declaration of the Convention

We want to protect our lives. We want to save our property and honour. We want to save our beloved motherland. So we who have gathered here at the historic Paltan Maidan from all parts of the country completely and unequivocally endorse this proposal.

  • Our will is to turn this unity into power to counter the sick politics generated by terrorism, black money, communalism and politicization. We vow to create a line of healthy politics to lead Bangladesh to the bright future that is awaiting Bangladesh in the new century.

  • We, the people of Bangladesh, recall our historic achievements that were possible through popular unity and the practice of healthy politics. Among these are the establishment of Bangla as the state language, the upheaval of '69, the non-cooperation movement, struggle for self-rule and the great liberation war and the successful popular movement of 1990 expelling autocracy and the re-establishment of democracy.

  • After this we had hoped to build a lively democracy with a sovereign parliament and responsible government; rule of law and human rights would be protected; the government would safeguard the lives and property of the people and ensure righteous rule by which the exploited and deprived people would be liberated from poverty, hunger, malnutrition, and lack of shelter and medical care.
