Before starting my family I worked in a number of offices doing all the usual duties such as typing, filing, reception, answering the phone etc. I've worked in the Library Service as an assistant librarian which involved filing books numerically, counter service, and processing new stock and reserved orders. I also got out into the community in this job, delivering the service to housebound and hospitalized borrowers.
As a Wages Clerk I calculated and processed PAYE wages on a weekly basis for some 70 personnel, keeping the employee records etc up to date, and writing the pay cheques. Then I was promoted to Accounts Clerk where I dealt with purchase orders, invoices, account enquiries, maintained income and expenditure accounts including month end balancing and bank reconcilliations. I particularly enjoyed the self-dependence this position offered along with its sense of responsibility, and the opportunity it allowed me to build good business relationships with our customers.
As a classroom assistant I've worked with a wide variety of children of all ages, assisting teachers with curriculum issues, behaviour control and display and project work. I've also assisted visiting artists and helped to supervise school trips - activities that enjoyably widened my role to outside school too. As a parent governor I have regularly attended meetings, served on the governing sub-panel,The National Curriculum Working Party, and was a member of the interviewing panel selecting a new Head Teacher.
As a successful student teacher of English and Drama, I taught some 180+ students aged 11-16, designing my own Schemes of Work to National Curriculum standards, preparing lesson plans and teaching resources using both imaginative creativity and IT skills. I successfully managed classroom behaviour and attended to the day-to-day administrational duties of a typical class teacher - not to mention maintaining the family home and a busy personal study and assignment schedule! |
