24th July 2005---Headline: Music Industry Wins Piracy Suit
The music industry claimed a big win against piracy in the Australian courts, as 31 applicants, including seven international music labels successfully sued the operators of www.mp3s4free.net for breaching the Australian Copyright Act.
This win is extremely significant as the case determined that linking the pirated mater, and not just downloading it, is a direct infringement of copyright under the Australian law.
It may also herald a turn away from these sites, commonly known as 'warez', which are popular for their fast downloads and difficulty to detect.
