Trends Identified in the Pilot Survey
The Pilot Survey Reults (consolidated) and data can be downloaded here.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Trends Identified
- An overwhelming number of teens in Hwa Chong Institution boys downloaded music illegally. Of 25 respondants, only 2 were adament that they only downloaded from iTunes online shop or bought the original CD.
- These 2 boys household income was over $15000, and their monthly allowances were above $300.
- A greater percentage of students in the College section bought original CDs, 40%, up from 26.7% in the High School section.
- Almost all respondents knew that they were infringing copyright rules, but, as quoted from a senior from the College side, 'I don't give a hoot. I don't think anyone has even been fined yet.'
---------------------------------------------------------------
However, it is important not to take these trends too seriously as the purpose of the pilot survey is only to find out the weaknesse of the survey form.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Another point of note was that in this pilot survey, several respondents commented that age was not at all a factor in the downloading of music, and there was no concrete foundation for the 4th hypothesis.
