McLean-Hunter Endowment Award for Nonfiction
PRISM International will award a $1,500 first prize for the best piece of literary nonfiction. Winning entry will be published in PRISM International and receive $20 per page compensation in addition to the prize and a one-year subscription to PRISM. Entries must be typed, double-spaced and no more than 25 pages. Entrant's full name, address, and title of the piece must appear on a separate cover page. The title of the piece should appear on each page, but the author's name should not. Entry fee $25 plus $5 for ach additional entry made payable to PRISM International. No simultaneous submissions. Contest not open to students or instructors in the Creative Writing Program at University of British Columbia. El Andar Prize for Literary Excellence II
Up to 4,000 words of creative nonfiction. Submissions may be in English or Spanish and should relate to Latino life and experiences. Only previously unpublished work considered. Include a separate cover letter with name, titles of entries, desired categories of submissions, address and telephone number of the author and biographical information. Do not include name on manuscript since judging is blind. First place prize is $1,000, second place prize is $200. Submissions should also be delivered on diskette in MS Word, if possible. Eleventh Annual Missouri Review Editors' Essay Prize

U$1,500 Prize for up to 25 typed, double spaced pages. $15 entry fee made payable to The Missouri Review. Entry fee includes a one-year subscription to Missouri Review. One winner and three finalists chosen. Finalists receive minimum of $100 or consideration for publication at regular rates. Langston Hughes Centennial Conference Call for Papers
UThe Department of English at Missouri Southern State College invites papers for the Langston Hughes Centennial Conference to be held Jan. 31 - Feb. 2, 2002 in Joplin, Missouri, Hughes' birthplace. Paper proposals on any aspect of Hughes' life and legacy will be considered, but suggested topics include: Multiculturalism/the canon, Jazz and the Blues, The Harlem Renaissance, Oral Traditions, McCarthyism, Africa, The New Negro, America, Modernism, Expatriation/Exile, Communism, Children's Literature and Contemporary Literature. Send typed, double-spaced proposals of no more than 500 words by
