What
is the Mobius Strip ? If you take a piece of paper and
make a ring out of it you will see that it can be
painted on both sides with two different colours
since it has two surfaces. That ring made of
paper is an example of orientable surfaces. A
sheet of paper or the surface of a sphere are
other examples of orientable surfaces.
But the mobius strip is an
non-orientable. Take the
ring you`ve made, cut, twist once and glue the
ends together. You`ve made a mobius strip and it
has only one surface ! You will see that you
can`t colour it with two different colours on
both sides because it has only one side! Ants
would be able to walk on the ring without falling
because there is there is no edge.
One other thing is that
if you try to cut the ring/strip into two pieces
by cutting at the middle you will se something
peculiar. . .click and answer to see what you`ll get...
