Who We Are The Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples defines Métis as: The Canadian Metis Council is a National organization representing Metis from across Canada, founded on the principals of accountability towards it's constituents. The CMC, then known as the Southwestern Region Metis Council, was originally Region 9 of the Metis Nation of Ontario. Having split from the MNO for a number of reasons, the SWRMC then became known as the Ontario Metis Council. Due to many requests from outside Ontario, the OMC then went National as the Canadian Metis Council. Currently, the CMC has Charter Locals in most Provinces. Women within the CMC have been of prime importance in the creation of the Metis Women's Circle of Turtle Island, an organization whose membership includes Metis women from across the Americas. Just as in the past, our Metis women play the pivotal role in our lives as Metis people. This website has been set up to facilitate communications. There are no fancy bells and whistles, just information. If you have any comments or suggestions, please feel free to email the webmaster . For other information, such as about membership see our contacts page, or for the Local Community Council nearest you see our Locals page. For information regarding Training and funding for training, take a look at the newest page of the site here. This
page will constantly be under review and refinement. As our Locals begin
creating their own websites, they will be added to the list. Until that
time, they will all be listed on the Locals page, with full addresses and
contact information.
