About this Millennium Project ...
| Our foundation has the opportunity to obtain a grant of up to $228,000 from the Canada Millennium Bureau. Our Canada Millennium Partnership Project will begin the development, into a historical park, of the 10 acres of the Lundy’s Lane Battlefield owned by the City of Niagara Falls. After 185 years, the tide has finally turned for this site. The Millennium funding will enable a fitting commemoration at last to begin ... a commemoration both to those who fought so valiantly at Lundy’s Lane and to the "peace which has long endured" between nations which clashed here 185 years ago. The federal funding is contingent upon two-thirds matching funds. The City of Niagara Falls has approved in principle contributing a one-third share. Our foundation has until March 2001 to raise its matching $228,000. Any monies not in place by that date will be deducted in equal part from the Federal contribution. A Master Plan for the Battlefield was completed in 1998. It calls for three stages of development, requiring almost $2 million in Stages 1 & 2. The destination attraction planned for Stage 3 will bring the overall investment to $4 or $5 million. Ten thousand people attended the Centenary Celebration in 1914. The Battle Bicentenary lies only 14 years away -- in 2014. We would like the Destination Attraction to be completed by this date. Our Canada Millennium Partnership Project offers an excellent opportunity to progress toward this goal. The funding will ensure that the 1830s Fralick’s Tavern (part of the late Ruth Redmond’s gift) will be restored according to her wishes, and converted into a Visitors’ Centre. Restoration and improvements in the Drummond Hill Cemetery (where Canadian War of 1812 heroine Laura Secord is buried), landscaping, and exhibits are other items the funding will make possible.
Membership is available for only $10.00 per year. Memberships and donations are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. (Charitable Registration Number 86983 1396 RR0001) The Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada has recognized this site and placed a plaque in Drummond Hill Cemetery.
