Métis Interfaith Church
Wolfe Island is also registered as a Métis
interfaith denomination in Ontario. The historic formation of the Wolfe
Island Métis Church allows our first licensed minister, Reverend Kathryn

consecrations, and funerals.
Mission
Statement
The mission of Wolfe Island Métis Charitable
Association is to receive funds and other property and to apply all or
part thereof and the income therefrom for charitable purposes which will
benefit the members of the Canadian Métis Council. To accomplish this, the following goals will be the focus
of our activities:
- To relieve poverty of Métis people in Canada by
assisting in the indigenous development efforts of Métis communities,
including the establishment and continued support of Métis Community
Centers.
- To advance the education of Métis people in
Canada by providing scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, prizes and
financial assistance to Métis students, with emphasis on students, who,
without financial assistance, might not otherwise be able to continue
their education. To provide equipment, furnishings, teaching aids, and
supplies to Métis educational institutes.
- To promote and advance the cultural and
spiritual teachings, and the historical heritage, of Métis
people.
- To acquire and hold land for the purposes of
community cultural and spiritual activities.
- To support purposes beneficial to the Métis
community, such as old age care, maintenance and rehabilitation; the
promotion of wellness within the Métis population; and the building or
acquisition of community health centers.
Statement of ActivitiesThe following is an outline of some of the programs and
activities intended for Wolfe Island Métis Charitable Association.
 |
As Métis communities
request assistance for families in their communities, assistance
will be provided (as funds allow). |
 |
An annual
scholarship for post-secondary education will be established for
deserving Métis students. |
 |
A Métis interfaith
church has been formed and is being supported. |
 |
The acquisition of
land for the purposes of community cultural and spiritual activities
is a long-term goal, and will depend on bequests. Funding would then
be used to maintain these facilities, and to make them
accessible. |
 |
A program will be
set up to provide coverage for dental care, eyeglasses, and hearing
aids, for Métis people in poverty. Programs to educate Métis people
about wellness concepts and culture will be initiated by local
communities, and funded as requested. The establishment of community
health centres is a long-term goal. |
