It has been brought to our attention that a certain individual(s) have been claiming to represent the interests of the Canadian Métis Council in British Columbia. At this point in time, only those individuals listed on our Locals page have any authority and mandate to represent the interests of the CMC.

Also, contrary to information currently being spread over the Internet, the Canadian Métis Council currently has only one "official" affiliation with a Métis group in the United States. This group is the Métis Nation of the United States. CMC is not affiliated in any way, shape or form with the "Métis Nation of America".

Well everybody, the Powley decision regarding the Métis right to hunt and fish has come down from the Ontario Court of Appeal. Just as with the first appeal to the Superior Court, the inital decision has been upheld! The Government of Ontario has been given one year to sit down and negotiate with the Métis people of Ontario. The impact of this decision will be felt by all Métis people across Canada. Our congratulations to the Powleys!!
