From the President’s Stall!
By Cy Peterson

Happy New Year!! I think we can count 2005 as one of the best years the club has ever had. Congratulations to Sheryl Moreland, our member of year for an outstanding job she did for us this year! She was always there to assist us whether it was the Poker Ride, the Fun Day or Patriot Raffle. Thank you Sheryl!! I also want to thank my board, committee chairs and countless volunteers. Because of you, we raised $2,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital and $1,650.80 for Anna Crawford Children’s Home. Wow! What a fantastic year! You guys are the best and I could not have done this without you!

In addition to the incredible amount of money we were able to raise for our two charities, we donated $241 to the Back Country Horsemen and $250 to the Georgia Trail Expert. We also had some of the most well-attended trail rides the club has ever had. We can really be proud when we look back at last year!

Our membership included 67 members, including spouses and children. The total money we brought in for new and renewal memberships was $810 which covered the cost of our newsletter, telephone, post office box, speaker dinners, etc. (Basically all the expenses to operate the club). Our T-shirts, hats and vests are running at a deficit by a couple hundred dollars but we have some inventory that puts this fundraiser as a positive. These are a great way to get our name out there and the club does not mark them up very much to keep them affordable. The Christmas party and the Parelli Clinic cost us money this year. The Christmas party operated at a net loss of $317 and the Parelli Clinic cost $8.43. Our Poker Ride generated about $300 and our 50/50 raffle brought in about $250. The Tack Sale did not make us much money but I think the weather hurt us on that. When you review the year, we started with $1733 in the treasury and now we have around $990. Jayne has a complete Treasurer’s Report in this newsletter for your review.

Please help your new board by coming up with new ideas to raise money and volunteering to chair fundraisers. We raised a lot of money for St. Jude and the Anna Crawford Children’s Home in 2005. If you have any new ideas or variations on the old, contact Marianne and let her know. I’m sure she will appreciate hearing from you. Let’s make 2006 a fun and successful year!
