Carnival in Brazil
Brazil Carnival: Dreaming about samba
Brazil’s ethnic, cultural and social diversity is never more evident than at events like Carnival and New Year’s. It may be hard for a foreigner to understand that a Brazilian is more likely to pick on you because you support a different soccer team, than because your skin color or accent is slightly different.
The Brazil Carnival is closely identified with the nation’s roots and traditions. From Friday evening through to the following Tuesday, Carnival revelers dance through the streets.
There are three major parts, The Carnival Balls, The Parade, and The Street Carnival “a chance for individuals to join in with local street bands.
Brazilian Samba’s roots begin with African immigrants from the Northeastern State of Bahia jamming at Plaza 11 and writing the first song at the home of renowned party hostess Tia Ciata.
