�berblick: (Kansai Business) - Die Biotechnologie gilt in Japan neben der Informations- und Kommunikationstechnik, der Nanotechnologie und der Umwelttechnik als Schl�sselsektor der Wirtschaftsentwicklung. Die Lockerung von Bestimmungen f�r Forscher von �ffentlichen Universit�ten und Forschungsinstituten sowie die Zunahme der in �ffentlichen Haushalten bereitgestellten F�rdermittel sind Hinweis auf eine langfristige Regierungsstrategie zur Unterst�tzung des Sektors. Aber auch Privatfirmen zeigen zunehmend Bereitschaft, kontinuierlich in dieses Gebiet zu investieren. Das Marktvolumen f�r biotechnologische Erzeugnisse und sonstige Produkte mit Bezug zur Biotechnologie erreichte im Jahr 2001 eine H�he von 1,33 Billionen Yen erreicht. (EU: ca. 2 Billionen Yen). Im Jahr 2010 soll das Marktvolumen 25 Billionen Yen betragen. Produkte und Verfahren aus dem Bereich der Post-Genom-Forschung sollen in Japan besonders stark wachsen. Neben der Kanto-Region um Tokio und dem Grossraum Sapporo auf Hokkaido setzt auch die Kansai-Region mit ihrem Humankapital, Ideenkapital und ihren Netzwerken auf eine Zukunft als international f�hrender Biotechnologie-Standort. Insbesondere im Bereich der regenerativen Medizin gilt Kansai als f�hrendes Forschungszentrum, in dem auch die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft zunehmend gut funktioniert. Allein der Standort Port Island in Kobe hatte als modernes Forschungscluster Anfang des Jahres 2004 bereits mehr als 40 Unternehmen aus dem biomedizinischen Bereich angezogen. Die Bereitschaft der traditionell in der Region ans�ssigen Nahrungsmittel- und Pharmaindustrie zu Kooperationen mit ausl�ndischen Biotechnologiefirmen ist hoch. Kooperationsans�tze reichen von gemeinsamer F & E (Grundlagenforschung und Kommerzialisierung) und dem Abschlu� von Lizenz- und Know-how-Vertr�gen bis zu gemeinsamer Vermarktung und dem Erschlie�en von Finanzierungsquellen.
