2003 Major Sky Events: General overview

Astronomical events that you should not miss for this year! Times are all in Local Brunei time (UT + 8hr). 

 

07 May 2003, 15:00 - Solar Transits

Above: Solar transit Mercury (appears as a tiny black dot) sliding in front of the sun. 

Transit of mercury, where mercury passes across the disk of the sun, happens once in a decade. This year, the transit will begin on 7th May 2003 at 13:13 local time. The maximum eclipse will occur at 15:51:03 LT. This exceptional event will last for 5 hours and 12 minutes and will end at sunset

 

August 2003 - Mars comes closer to Earth

The red planet, Mars, will lies closest to Earth (55.76 million kilometers from Earth) on August 27. Consequently, this year Mars appears brighter shining at magnitude -2.9. Martian surface detail and polar caps can be observed with a small telescope. Mars will begin to fade by the beginning of October 2003

 

07 October 2003 - Moon passes Mars

On 7th October, at 01:36 local time, Moon appears close to Mars with angular separation of 0° 48'
