On
the night of 5th July 2001, the Brunei's overcast night sky
blocked eclipse viewer from observing the lunar eclipse. The
previous lunar eclipse, occurred on 10th January 2001, was a total
lunar but did not give the viewer a chance at all to observe the
eclipse because of the dense, thick clouds covered the entire
night sky and heavy rain in some areas of Brunei.
Though,
this time, it was not a very clear sky, observers can still view
the phenomenon. These images were taken before the mid-eclipse
started and were all blurred because of the overcast sky and hazy
atmosphere. As seen from the photos the umbra (earth's shadow)
covered about 40% of the moon.
Another
lunar eclipse will be visible on 30th December 2001, however, this
time it will be less interesting to view because it will be a
penumbral lunar eclipse. This will make a total of 3 lunar
eclipses visible in Brunei this year.
