Penumbral
Eclipse of the Moon will occur on 2001 December 30 In Brunei. This
is the fifth and the last eclipse for the year 2001. The beginning
of the penumbral phase visible in North America, Central America,
South America except the eastern coast, Greenland, extreme
northwestern Europe, northeast Asia, Arctic, most of New Zealand,
North Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, eastern Philippine Sea, and
Coral Sea; the end visible in North America except eastern coast,
Greenland, Arctic, northern part of Central America, Asia,
Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, the North Pacific Ocean, South
Pacific Ocean except southeastern part, and eastern portion of the
Indian Ocean.
Penumbral
Lunar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through Earth's
penumbral shadow. It is only academic interest since and unlike
the total and partial lunar eclipses, the penumbral eclipses are
quite difficult to see, even with a telescope. Lunar eclipses are
completely safe to watch.

The
eclipse is actually started right after the moon rises (18:14
Local Time). At this time, however, the effect of the eclipse will
not be visible since the day is still bright (sun sets at 18:17:58
Local Time). The mid eclipse will occur at 18:29:12 Local Time. As
the moon is rising, the darkening effect on the moon will become
more visible, though only slight colour change changes will be
observed. The moon will appear orange-yellow and will not be
disappear because it will not enter the Umbra. As the moon leaving
the penumbra it will become brighter and the eclipse will end at
20:33:12 Local Time. (See diagram above and summary of the eclipse
