Some of the transitions start before sun rise (below horizon), and end after the sun set (below horizon).

The starting and ending time given is when the transition visible above the horizon.

The 6th June 2012 make the most of this rare second Venus transit in our period as the next will not happen for another century, in 2117. Venus transits are noted for the famous "black-drop" effect where by the planetary limb appears to bleed-in making it look like a pear or tear drop. Some of this is due to optical defects in the optics and the eye, some due to atmospheric turbulence. This events will be a good opportunity to study all the eye and optical illusions with the latest electronic imaging and optical design.
