Jennifer Barclay, founder of Blue Fish Clothing, has always been an enthusiastic supporter of Blue Fish Tales. Her first open letter to Blue Fish fans (printed at the bottom of this page) stressed the importance of sharing personal stories, and let us all know how much they inspire her. In turn, she has inspired this web site; much of what has been accomplished here is due to materials and background she has provided. Now, in her second letter to Blue Fish Tales, Jennifer Barclay is asking us, Blue Fish's biggest fans, to help her create the block printed designs for Spring 2001. Let's all do what we can to assist Blue Fish as they plan their designs for the year ahead: JULY 17th, 2000 Hello everyone! I would like to invite you to participate in the creation of the block designs for spring, 2001. Our theme will be developing based on the following concept: Junk drawers! Whats in your junk drawer/what objects of meaning do you keep and why? I think it will be interesting to merge the objects, their stories-your stories of these objects/with simply fun objects that are visually interesting! We all have collections or talismans that we cannot get rid of. Little toys, positive thoughts or scraps of fortunes. Gumball machine treasures, mementos of our history, intermingled with the paperclips and scissors and crayons... I will not say more, I think this will evolve in its own right. There are no boundaries, no right or wrong things or ideas, only inspiration and meaning combined with the everyday. So, if you get it and have the desire to be a partthis is what you do: Look around, find a small group of things from your junk drawer. Make up a package and send it to me at blue fish. #3 sixth street frenchtown, nj 08825--- I will open these packages, see whats inside, and draw from the objects both blocks and conclusions as to how this idea wants to evolve! Send them to me asap. By the deadline of august 11th Please! Your things will be returned one month later. Thanks for being a part of this fun project! Be well and be inspiration! With a smile and a wish-
FEBRUARY 2000 Thank you for your belief and for taking the time to create a place where people can share their stories. Definitely the Blue Fish way...I have heard so many great, funny, and some unbelievably moving stories about the women who love wearing Blue Fish, how it helps to bring people together, to discover new friendships, to bring out and inspire self-confidence, celebrate creativity and individualism, to cause smiles...stories of clothes 'borrowed' and never returned, stolen out of suitcases(that contained other more 'valuable' things that were untouched) in airports, and one recent story about a purple uphostery coat "lost" in a fire only to emerge as the only item unharmed, within a block of ice, months later. Most of all I love the stories that are about how people FEEL. Sharing your stories helps to create a rich tapestry...which continues to inspire creativity and energy in others who read your words. I am grateful for all of the letters I recieve from Blue Fish people, your words, ideas and feedback energize me. I love to meet people who wear the clothes and learn from all that wild creativity. These clothes are meant to be worn in any way that reflects your own personal sense of style. There are myriad ways to create by layering colors, fabrics, and prints of different seasons and collections. Anyone can wear the clothes. I think it is like creating a painting. Expression, imagination, color, texture, style. Experiment, enjoy and have fun! write to Jennifer in the design room ..WITH REQUESTS, style ?'s, stories ,ideas and inspirations!! (we are currently working on spring for 2001!)
