TAWNY FROGMOUTH

Nocturnal bird with powerful froglike beak, long tail and cryptic colouration. Roosts during the day and hunts at night for mice and insects. Size 32 - 46 cm. Has soft 'oom-oom' voice but loud 'grr-er' when disturbed. Nests are stick platforms in fork of tree.

SOUTHERN BOOBOOK

Grows to 30-35 cm. Small brown hawk-owl with greenish-yellow eyes in large facial mask. Nocturnal. Makes loud 'book-book' sound.  Nests in hollows in trees. Common throughout mainland Australia and Tasmania.
