KOOKABURRA
Large kingfisher with dark patch behind eye and silver-blue plumage on wings. Grows to 46 cm.
Has a loud, chuckling laugh often in chorus. Nests in hollows in trees or termite mounds. Is a common resident of woodland and forests of eastern Australia. Kookaburras will become quite tame if fed on raw meat. They often perch on power lines as a vantage point, sitting almost motionless for long periods while scanning the ground below.

Is a rich crimson with blue cheeks, wings and tail with back and wings mottled black.
It grows to around 32-36 cm and occurs from Cairns, Queensland to South Australia. It is usually seen in pairs feeding either on the ground or in trees, favouring flowering eucalypts.
