STARGATE

The movie opens in a dusty Egypt, somwhere around 1920-1930. Alluring coverstones have been discovered and when they are removed an object that no one had ever before seen the likes of is revealed. It is a strange metallic device in a circular design with unrecognisable symbols carved into its inner rim. A little girl named Catherine stands nearby and watches as her father instructs the men to secure the dig.

Now it is the early 1990's and the Catherine is an elder woman. She runs the program that is trying to figure out what the object is and does. Seeking someone who can decipher the meanings on the coverstones she finds Doctor Daniel Jackson. He is an Egyptologist who's ideas about the origins of the pyramids are scoffed at.

Daniel Jackson manages to decipher the meaning of the inscription on the coverstones, and Catherine decides it is time that she introduced him to the object of which he just described as the 'Stargate'. He also manages to decipher the seventh symbol that had been nagging scientists for a long time. Now that they have accessed the event horizon, they are able to travel through the wormhole to another Stargate located elsewhere. Thus the military gather up a team of hard hitters, and prepare to send them through. The team is head up by Colonel Jack O'Niell who has been pulled from retirement for this mission. Docter Daniel Jackson joins them also. Their mission is to assern any possible threat to Earth and destroy the Stargate if one is found.

Abydos is the planet that they arrive on. It is home to a race of humans which stun the millitary guys, but only serves to drive Daniels curiosity even more. He makes contact with the locals and soon he finds himself falling for the native Sha're. But the happy befriending does not last long as a huge ship lands on top of the pyramid that the planets Stargate is hidden inside. It is soon made known that the new arrival is a familiar face to the people of Abydos.

This arrival is Ra, an alien (Goa'uld) who claims himself to be an ancient god of Egypt. He has fooled the people of this planet into thinking this for many centuries, and he often abuses his power to manipulate them. He visits Abydos to mine it for an important metal. A metal that the Stargate is also made out of. After he discovers that the team from Earth is on the planet, Ra decides he doesn't like them there.

The team has its own problems. They knew how to get there however, Daniel now has to locate an 'address' that he hopes will be near the Stargate so they can get home.

Ra doesn't want them going anywhere and he attacks using his powerful Death Gliders. The Goa'uld appears to have the upper hand, and then suddenly the people of Abydos rebel against their now former god and fight back. Ra's guards don't stand a chance against the sheer number of them.

During the battle Sha're is mortally wounded and dies as she tries to save Doctor Jackson. He can't bare the thought of being without her so he dares to use an ancient Goa'uld sarcophagus on Ra's ship to heal her and restore her life. (He had seen Ra use it.) Mealwhile, Jack O'Niell has started a countdown on a nuclear bomb that he as positioned next to the Stargate. This was definatly a possible threat to Earth.

Then Ra's troops suddenly pull back as he realises that he is defeated. Jack O'Niell tries to difuse the bomb but he cannot. The Goa'uld prepares to leave as everyone outside the pyramid cheers their victory. Jack knows that there is not much time left on the bomb.

Suddenly a ring transportation device activates right in front of the Stargate and Colonel O'Niell. Out steps Daniel with Sha're, alive, and right from the mothership. Then the two men devise a nice little scheme that ensures Ra gets exactly what is comming to him.

...sorry, I'm not giving away the ending! Hehe.
