California's Route 48348. Route 48 is from Route 14 near Lancaster to Route 122 near the San Bernardino county line.
Entire route.
Unconstructed.
Route 48 was once from Route 5 in Gorman to Route 122. The portion from Route 5 to Route 14 was transferred to Route 138 in 1995. It took me so long to understand this thing! Way back when they barely commissioned the Federal Highways, Route 48 as a U.S. Highway was established. I'm not sure where it began, but I can certainly tell you that it went from Route 84 on Route 580 heading eastward and then on Route 205. Later, it went onto Route 205's business route through Tracy and follow nowaday Route 5 to Sacramento. The portion I just mentioned was eventually transferred to U.S. Route 50 somewhere before 1955, when the route was probably decomissioned as well.
You know, Palmdale and Lancaster are actually flourishing despite the mix of class and an unusually declining property value. So they better build the darn freeway or expressway soon, before housing comes in and takes the proposed route's land and eventually have the same troubles of building through like, oh, the 710.
