Sharing
a SCSI CDRW with your ASR-X and
Macintosh April
1, 2001 ~ Sometimes the obvious can stare you right
in the face... Need
to share a CD-RW on a SCSI chain with your
Macintosh and ASR-X? Without the aid of 3rd party
software, i.e., EPSm, your Mac will not mount an
Ensoniq format CD-ROM on the desktop. Here's an
obvious workaround I stumbled onto when installing
iTunes onto my machine... Make
a separate Extension Set using Extension Manager
where the Toast CD Reader extension is disabled.
Name the new extension set something obvious, like:
My Setup w/o Toast. Restart your Mac from the new
Extension Set. Without
the Toast CD Reader extension your Mac will ignore
the Ensoniq format CD-ROM (or any other CD for that
matter) inserted into your external CD-R or CD-RW
drive on the SCSI chain. Your ASR-X/X-Pro will
blissfully mount the CD regardless. Toast doesn't
require the extension for burning CD's or reading
from the internal IDE CD-ROM - only for reading
from the external drive. For that matter, neither
does Retrospect Express! |
