The Characters
There are many different characters in Animal Farm. Most are Animals that seem to human characteristics. Here are some of the Characters:
Mr. Jones
- Was the old owner of the farm.
- He was cruel to the animals.
- He once was nice to the animals
- He would drink a nice amount.
- Animals got chased him off the farm twice.
- Died later in a inbriates' home.
Old Major
- was a old boar on the farm.
- Highly regarded on the farm.
- 12 years old.
- Dreamer.
- Was majestic looking.
- Had a wise and Benevolent appearance.
- Blamed humans for all promblems.
- He was the one who invented animalism.
- Through the telling of his dream told them the commandments.
- Also he taught the animal the song which became their anthem.
- Died before the rebellion happened.
Snowball
- More vivacious than Napoleon
- Quicker in speech than Napoleon
- Inventive
- Young
- Really wanted to make life better for all
- Was a leader after the rebellion against Jones
- Chased away into exile by dogs
Napoleon
- A Large, fierce looking Berkshire.
- Not much of a talker.
- Reputatuion for getting his own way.
- Used Moses, the dogs and Squealer to control the animals.
- Loves to have power.
- Gets rid of opponents (even kill them).
- Not as clever as Snowball.
- Frightened other animals using threats like 'Do you want Jones to come back?'
- Became just as bad as Jones when he became the leader of Animal Farm.
Squealer
- Round cheeks and twinkling eyes.
- nimble movements and shrill voice.
- Brilliant talker and talks a lot.
- Very Persuasive
- Gets animals to believe and follow Napolean.
- Changes and manipulates the commandments.
Boxer
- Strong
- Not all that smart
- Respected
- enormus (eighteen hands high)
- Had two mottos "I will work harder" and "Napoleon is always right."
- Was sent to horse slaughters
- Was shot in leg, but still continued to work
- Collasped one day with a bad lung.
- Died before the windmill was finished being built for the 3rd time.
Clover
- A stout motherly mare.
- had 4 foals.
- approaching middle-life.
- notice the changes in the commandments first.
- New horses accepted the stories about the rebellion from her.
- She was one of the few who still remembered the rebellion.
- Saw squealer on his hind legs.
Benjamin
- oldest on the farm.
- Worst tempered.
- Cycincal.
- Never laughed before.
- Devoted to Boxer.
Moses
- Always talked of Sugercandy Mountain.
- Never did any work.
- Was Jones's pet.
Molly
- Loved ribbons and sugar.
- Left the farm for her type of life.
- Always made excuses not to work.
The Dogs
- Were once Jessie's and Bluebell's puppies.
- Napoleon trained them to do his bidding.
- Attacked anyone on Napoleon's command.
- The guards to the pigs.
