People are sometimes unsure what they should consider when deciding which breed would best suit them, or if a crossbreed might be a better choice. If they have not previously or recently owned a cat or a dog they may be unsure what to expect and what the pet's requirements will be. If they have only owned an adult pet before they can be unsure of exactly what owning a puppy or a kitten may entail.
Jennifer can offer a home visit for a pre-purchase consultation to discuss your requirements and your lifestyle to help you match these with a suitable pet. A home visit enables her to see your home, where you would be keeping your new pet, so she can best discuss what you can offer and what your proposed pet may require to ensure a good match to maximise the potential for a happy and mutually rewarding pet owning experience.
Issues discussed can include pet insurance, housing, bedding, exercise and social requirements, grooming considerations, suitable breeds or mixed breed considerations.
Jennifer's extensive experience can provide you with advice on the good points of various breeds and some of the possible drawbacks of a breed on your shortlist. Truthful advice about the negative points of a breed are often harder to come by than the positive points, until after it may be too late.
Other issues considered would include should you have a male or a female? Is it better to have a single pet or should you consider getting two and if so what combination would be best? Should you have your pet neutered? If so when would be the best time? Should you get your pet from a rescue or from a breeder? What should you look for in a good breeder? What should you look for when going to see your prospective new pet?
Further considerations may be what provisions should you make for your pet's first few nights? What training do you need to provide for your pet and when should you start training? What equipment do you need to start with and what are you best to obtain as you go along when you may have a clearer idea of your pet's individual requirements?
While giving an outline of what would be likely to be covered, the consultation would not be restricted only to these areas. Because every person's requirements differ each consultation will be conducted to give maximum benefit in that individual situation
