SAA Diver Qualifications
An Elementary diver is fully pool trained but inexperienced in open water. When diving in open water an elementary diver must be accompanied by a minimum of a dive leader or above.
An open water diver has additional practical experience. Must be accompanied by a minimum of a dive leader or above.
A club dive is a qualified open water diver and may dive with others certified as club divers or above. A club diver is not considered to have sufficient experience to take elementary or open water divers on open water dives.
A dive leader is someone who has had additional experience in both practical and theory and has proven their ability to lead divers underwater, A dive leader may dive with any certified grade diver.
A dive supervisor is an experienced and responsible diver, with a proven ability to organise and lead club expeditions.
A dive master is a diver who has, through nationally conducted examinations, proved to have gained a higher than average level of knowledge and ability. Is able to organise divers to achieve major tasks and projects underwater.
