Unfinished ideas & what the future holds

Gallant Comics & Suria Productions are the stables that Lubisan has created with his wife - Suria - to help market his creations. While Lubisan still does all the inking and pencilling, the scripting chores are now shared with his wife. That is, after the demands of their two young children are looked after. If you like, you might call them a dynamic duo.

The works on this page represents unfinished ideas of the two that have been put in cold storage due to a lack of demand. They may still see the light of day or may just live on in creative limbo. Only time will tell.

Waja & Wati - see picture right - was the duo's first collaboration together soon after they were married. It saw the light of day on August 25th 1996 when Lubisan was asked to create a "filler" by an editor of a local publication.

It was turned down on the grounds that characters were too Americanised whilst the design was too manga-esque. Since then Lubisan has not ventured into the supernatural world of the protagonists but it is still an idea worth looking into.

"I didn't feel alright with myself when the editor asked for too many changes ... so I quit! I feel as strongly about it today as I did back then, I'm not an artist unless I can draw the way I want to."

Waja is the hero of this piece. Immensely strong physically and mentally, he is able to transform into steel-like form, fly & teleport short distances.

Wati is the heroine of the piece. Fast and able to conjure any weapon by force of thought, she is almost invulnerable to and is twice as strong as the strongest man. Wati shares a telepathic bond with Waja.

The world of Waja & Wati straddles the line between reality and the supernatural. It tells the tale of an evil force from the Netherworld that hitches a ride with a Watcher from the world of Bunian.

The Bunians are spirit beings that sometimes assume human form to prevent us from discovering their world which exists in parallel to ours. These pseudo-humans are known as Watchers.

Things start to go wrong when the Bunian Council discovers the evil that Abadi and his minions called Fables starting to crossover to our side and take over human form; some times quite gruesomely.

In order to protect their world from Fable-occupied humans, the council decides to recall their Watchers and close the doorway between the Worlds. All but one returned, for Wati has fallen in love with a human.

That is where the story begins as Waja goes against the order to return and her code of non-interference to protect the man she loves.

"Badang 2000 was the last of my creations until the Eric idea came along. The concept came at a time when I was still overflowing with ideas."

Badang 2000 was created on March 24th 1998 in the mold Dale Keown's Pitt. The image on the left is the only art conceived for the project as Lubisan decided to go into semi-retirement soon after to concentrate on being a father.

His work on Atomik Mat and the work in progress that is Eric's Wanderers is the only thing Lubisan has done in a while. Let us hope that time & tide permit both Waja & Wati and Badang 2000 to see the light of day.
