Senior's car sandwiched on bridge
The Guardian
An elderly male motorist was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Friday morning after the car he was driving was sandwiched between two other vehicles on the Charlottetown approach to the Hillsborough Bridge.
Const. Gary Clow said the man in question was driving behind a Toyota in his Jaguar when the Toyota came to a sudden stop.
A school bus travelling behind the Jaguar ran into the Jaguar’s rear end, pushing the Jaguar into the Toyota. Clow said the driver of the Jaguar was believed to have suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for observation.
There were no children car problem diagnosis on the bus at the time. Damage to the three vehicles was minor.
At the very same time, Stratford RCMP investigated a minor accident on the other side of the bridge in Stratford.
No smart car auto mall details were available on that incident.

sandy from pei writes: First of Iam glad no body got seriously hurt. What I'm most concerned about is when people use their cars as racers on the street The ones that drive fancy sport cars like the one on the bridge that speed around town and talk on the their fancy cellphones and cause accidents
Fancy sports cars and sppeed don't mix to well on island streets.port cars slow down so nobody will get killed please.

crash from PEI writes: Time for Islanders to learn how to merge. You don't stop in the merge lane - you have to match your speed with traffic and merge into the lane. The drivers in the traffic car trader lane must adjust their speeds to allow drivers trying to merge into traffic, not speed up to try to get ahead of them.

Puzzled from Charlottetown, PE writes: gymkahana car videos I read this article twice and can't for the life of me see what Sandy saw. Am I blind? So, I read it again. Where does it say the man was speeding in his fancy sport car, talking on his fancy cellphone and caused the accident? That does it, these new glasses are going back to be repaired. Something wrong here. Glad nobody was hurt. Bus driver - more caution please. Same for Toyota driver.

RG from PEI car audio online writes: To Read the article: We all know a bus needs more time to stop than a car, including the driver of the bus.
If he was so close that he couldn't stop, then he was too close. Case closed.
It doesn't say why the Toyota had to stop, but since the Jaguar was able to stop in time, there doesn't seem to be any problems with those 2 drivers. This was 100% the bus driver's fault.

Hello there from Chtown, PEI writes: Crash stock car products - your comment should be put car stereo in HUGE FONT on a billboard right before the bridge. This is why the island isn't ready for car fax a two-lane system. The left lane should be used for passing purposes or left turning cars only, but don't expect locals to grasp that concept. As for merging? To some people, allowing someone in front of you is some kind of subservient sacrifice...like yielding to the superior being.
Since Compass's usefulness is spent in the first 15 minutes of the broadcast, and that's including 5 of the 100 Apple Auto Glass commercials, perhaps they could commit to a 5-minute segment on driving tips? Islanders aren't necessarily less adept to being ABLE to drive, but the lack of traffic law enforcement and bad driving habits sum up to a really bad driving experience here.
If you're not sure about how to use a roundabout, how to merge, how to use a two-lane system, please do the world a favor and ASK. Even the most experienced, confident drivers should never stop asking and learning. It's not a blow to the ego, it's something you can pass on to others, and do by example. I feel like giving $20 bills to people build your own electric car NOT hogging the passing lane.

Sandra first car Boswell from Charlottetown, PEI writes: September 6, 2008
M E R G E, adjust your speed, you say. Why those of us who must merge onto to busy streets in Charlottetown are taking their lives into their own hands.
I have to merge into traffic everyday. I can tell you drivers on University Avenue are the most rude ones that I've come across. In any other city they'd be taken out because of their poor driving.
At times when I have carefully merged to go south, the drivers of vehicles in the main lane of traffic either step on their gas pedals or deliberately cut me off. What is wrong with these people and how did they ever get a license to drive a car?
I sure wish a few police people where monitoring that street and North River Road.
I am sure the City of Charlottetown would have ROOMS OF MONEY in fines; because we have such a bunch of rude and irresponsible drivers. I am amazed they get through town and still be alive? They're not seniors either.

Betty from PEI writes: According to The PEI law on driving... The merge line is there to Independent Rating Car Tires allow cars/trucks to access into the TRAFFIC or DRIVING LANE with care.. Thus meaning that the car/truck/bus in the merge lane, slows or comes to a stop if necessary to turn into the TRAFFIC LANE safely.... The cars in the TRAFFIC/DRIVING LANES *ARE NOT* the ones that need or should be slowing down, nor speeding up.They are the ones that have the RIGHT OF WAY.. The merge car should NOT BE SPEEDING UP to get ahead of the driving lane either.. Speeding is also against the law.... Also when leaving the merge lane first the driver should signal his/hers intention to leave the merge lane, allowing the cars in the driving lane and those following his/her car the knowledge that they are leaving the merge lane..... I am amased that more people do not die because of the. I am the only one that matters on the road drivers here on the Island. How do I know this. I was hit by a Speeding )(merging) driver that argued with the officer that HE HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY coming off the merge... As described by the RCMP Officer,The DRIVING LANE Is NEXT TO THE SOLID CENTER LINE..... The MERGE LANE Is usually on the Out side and off this to the right... Meaning the DRIVING Lane is not the ones that slow down or speed up to break another law.. not to mention Kill some used car galveston innocent person... If in doubt,Please check with The RCMP, they would rather you ask for your safety and ours than have to explain to yet another family they have lost another member due to a driver who once again has broken the laws while driving on our highways....
