This car and many more will be on display in downtown North Platte this car hauler trailer plan weekend.  Share This Story: By Mark Young Published: Friday, September 5, 2008 4:49 AM CDT The North Platte Telegraph There are certain activities and hobbies that seem to cultivate their own communities, and when it comes to car enthusiasts - be it observer or participant - that philosophy certainly applies. For the 14th straight year, the Col. Cody Cruise car car care wax show, partnered with the Platte Valley Car Club, will return to North Platte this weekend to show off a variety of vehicles, ranging from hot rods to classics to modern modifieds. According to the remote control car president of the Col. Cody Cruise car show, Todd Freeburg, activities officially begin for the participants this evening with the show's kickoff party at the Holiday Inn Express, but it's also a chance for people to get a sneak peek of what's to come. "A lot of cars will already be in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express by Friday evening and people are more than welcome to come by and get a sneak peek and hang out with us," said Freeburg. Freeburg said that 125 vehicles have already pre-registered for the event, but he expects somewhere around 200 vehicles total by Saturday's main event most unique car in downtown North Platte. "We were a little worried about gas prices this year, but it doesn't appear that is going to hurt us," said Freeburg. The vehicles will begin filling up downtown parking spaces Saturday morning around 8 a.m. and the Show and Shine portion of the event will last until around 4 p.m. There will plenty of prizes awarded to participants. Freeburg said there would be 130 trophies handed out budget car sales for a variety of categories, which includes the "Hard Luck" trophy for the person who had the toughest time getting to the event. Voting is limited to the participants, but the viewing of the many styles of mean machines is, of course, open to everyone, and everyone is encouraged to attend the festivities, which includes food vendors on site. Freeburg said the show also includes a theme each year, with this year's theme honoring the upcoming holiday of Halloween. "People seem to really enjoy our themes and go all-out," said Freeburg. "Enjoying one another and meeting new people is Classic Car Show In Danville what it's all about and that's car battery prices the biggest thing I get out of it. People enjoy coming to North Platte and the free cartoon car drawing fact that we do this downtown makes it a new car dealership sandusky lot of fun for everyone." Pre-registration indicates that participants are coming from several different states, including Illinois, Kansas, Colorado, Car Insurance In Vermont Wyoming, Texas, Iowa and Missouri, with the longest drive being about 700 miles. The Col. Cody Cruise car show includes an enthusiastic group of car lovers who look forward to their annual visit with one another. That, Freeburg said, is the heart and soul of the event. "I've car computers been to car shows where there are 500 cars and yeah, it's great to see all the cars, but there's no personality to Independent Rating Car Tires them like budget car rental coupons there is at our shows," he said. "Everybody looks forward to seeing one another again and we always welcome new members and get to car songs cd know each other. I try to shake hands with each and every person." Local businesses continue to help sponsor the event, which draws large crowds into the downtown area for a day of good food, good fun, "and good shopping," said Freeburg. Last year, the group presented Mayor Keith Richardson with a completely remodeled 1930 Model A Ford Victoria. The vehicle already belonged to Richardson, but volunteers from the club had taken the car 18 months prior to last year's presentation and unveiled it to the mayor at last year's kickoff party. Richardson, an avid car enthusiast himself, was brought to tears when his sparkling blue Ford drove around the corner during the surprise presentation. Freeburg likes to say that the Col. Cody Cruise car show has a heart all its own and that presentation was used car sales a pretty good indication that Freeburg speaks the truth. "[Richardson has] been a long-time friend to us and a long-time hot rod enthusiast," Freeburg said last year. "He's a true hot rodder and we were happy to car waxes do this." The mayor, eyes filled with tears, said it had been 23 long years since he had seen his 1930 classic on the road. The Telegraph wants to know what you think. Death sends reminder of dangers of car care Matthew Gruchow • [email protected] • September 6, 2008 Print this page E-mail this article Share this article: Del.icio.us Facebook Digg Reddit Newsvine What’s this? Thursday's death of a Sioux Falls man offers a grim reminder of New Car Lease Specials how the dangers of car care have increased through the years, local mechanics say. Axel Gatica, 20, was at home working under a car Aug. 22 when a gasoline spill ignited the detached garage at 1008 E. Third St. He died Thursday of burns sustained in that fire. The evolution of car mechanics and the lack of safety equipment and protocols makes working on today's cars at home particularly dangerous, said Cody Long, general manager of South Side Performance. "The cars are definitely harder to work on," he said. "Not everyone can afford the tools and will try to jury-rig something." Today's vehicles include a variety of electronics, advanced fuel Motor Car Insurance Quote systems and different metal composites, each requiring specific tools and safety gear to manage properly. That gear might not always be available to the home mechanic, Long said. Those dangers increase when amateurs attempt to customize their middletown new car cars with special wiring or fuel systems, he said. "I've seen people who try to put in nitrous best car wax oxide chattanooga hyundai second hand car dealers systems themselves, and they'll have leaky valves that are leaking nitrous oxide into their cars, and they don't even know it," Long said. According to a July car news report on vehicle fire trends by the National Fire Protection Association, "misuse of material or product," which includes fires that occur while servicing a vehicle, accounted for 11 percent of vehicle fires and 16 percent of vehicle fire deaths from what car 2002 to 2005. There were an average of 306,800 vehicle atlanta used car fires per year during that time, with an average build a car trailer of 520 deaths. "A flammable liquid or gas spill, Home Car And Life Insurance included in this group, caused 2 percent of the fires but 8 percent of the associated deaths," the report states. The fire that took Gatica's life probably will not be counted as a vehicle fire because the surrounding structure, his garage, caught fire. Serious injuries and even death can occur with the most basic repairs, said Jeremy Mulder, a service technician with South Side Performance. Home repairs should be limited in scope, he said. "There are still things a guy can do from home, but check the owner's manual," Mulder said. "If it's not in the owner's manual, then I wouldn't go there."
