The Pearls of Achievement Award

Chapters earn "pearls" from June 1 through May 31 each year. One "pearl" is awarded for the attainment of each of the criteria listed up to a maximum of seven. A chapter will be recognized as a 7 "pearl" chapter if it meets at least seven of the criteria listed, including the first three which are required; a 6 "pearl" chapter if it meets any six criteria, etc. Final determination of a chapter's pearls will be based on paperwork received and processed at Headquarters by May 31.

Chapters will be recognized annually with a "Pearls of Achievement" certificate mailed to the chapter president following the end of die reporting period and the specific "Pearl" designation earned by each chapter will be reported in the KAPPAN Directory each fall.

Benefits of the Award

*         Recognizes deserving chapters

*         Identifies chapters needing assistance from their S/P/N
membership consultant and/or S/P/N president

*         Motivates chapters to complete forms on time

*         Challenges chapters to strive for excellence

*         Identifies successful chapters for members who are
relocating

*         Encourages participation beyond the chapter level

*         Improves communication

*         Fosters teamwork

*         Promotes pride in membership

Judging

International Headquarters will gather and track information from the June 1 membership analysis plus various required reporting forms.

Criteria

Chapters earn "pearls" from June 1 through May 31, on the following criteria:

*1. Positive Net Growth reported on the May 31 Net Growth

Analysis.

      *2. Member Record Update must be completed as directed

and received at Headquarters no later than May 1.  Only

the original form as sent by Headquarters will earn a pearl.

     *3. Timely Reporting

a.   Biannual Chapter Highlights Summary (H-ll4) due to  Headquarters no later than December 1 and June 1.

 b.  H-138 Member Payment Record with dues and fees

      paid to Headquarters and postmarked no later than   January 31.
 

 *4. White copy of Membership Action Plan with first  
       columns completed submitted to International
       Headquarters by October 1 (even year). Yellow copy of
      
MAP with the last three columns completed and         submitted to International Headquarters no later

than October 1(odd year).
 

5.  Chapter Balance (15 or more members with at least   50% of the members actively engaged/employed in   education).
 

6. Retention Rate of 90% or higher (Number of members at chapter end (May 31 of current year) minus any new members divided by the number of members at the chapter year beginning (June of last year).

7.     Chapter represented at International Convention (For the
 reporting period June 1,__  - May 31,__).
 

8.     Observed Alpha Delta Kappa Month and reported
Biannual Chapter Highlights Summary (H-114).


9.     Colonized or sponsored a new chapter.
