Stone Bridge

The pilgrims arrive at Logroño by the north of the city. Crossing the historical Stone Bridge, on the Ebro river, we go to the Ruavieja street and here it is Pilgrims' Shelter, inaugurated in 1993. Inside there is a fountain with six stars that represents the localities by which passes the Way towards Santiago de Compostela.

The travelling ones register in a book, can be lodged and receive their accreditation, that will allow them to rest in all the shelters of the route, a map and a shell or vieira, symbol of the Way.

The Way goes through the Ruavieja street, continues in the one of Barriocepo and finishes in the door of the Revellín. In the route we can see:

Next to the shelter, the small chapel of San Gregorio Ostiense, dedicated to the saint who died in Logroño in 1048. He had arrived at the city, by order of the Pope Juan XVIII,
and released to territories of the Rioja and Navarre of a plague of lobsters.

The wine cellar of the Golden Grate, example of the old wine cellarss in the city, conserves one of the tunnels by which the people left to fish in the Ebro river, during the siege of the French, in 1521.

We leave the Ruavieja street and after crossing the Sagasta street, on the right it is the Iron Bridge, and we enter the Barriocepo street. Here it is the Pilgrims' Fountain, that although recovered, conserves its old layout. On the right, in the ground of the San Pablo square, the Game of the Oca marks the stages of the Way according to the "Codex Calixtinus". It was a guide of trip for the travelling ones, published in 1130, advised the stages to follow, some lasted several days of march.

The church of Santiago the Real one is located in the North end, from its tower allowed to watch the river. Constructed on a previous church, the present data of century 16th. The facade is decorated with two sculptures of Santiago, one like pilgrim and the other riding on his horse. The interior is of a single ship, of high altitude, without central columns. In the greater altar there is an altarpiece dedicated to the Apostle and we can see an image of the virgin of the Hope, gothic of century 12th, saint patron of the city.

The Parliament, located in the old convent of the Merced and later Tobacco grower, is almost at the end of the route.

The door of the Revellín, with the lateral circle tower, is the only remains of the walls that surrounded the city, conserves in its facade the shield of Carlos V.

The Way continues by modern streets until leaving the city.
