THE TEAM

Waldo Stakes couldn't accomplish his goals without a team of dedicated individuals, each specializing in what they do best.

Ken Mason - A bipropellant rocket engineer, Ken has been into liquid rocketry since he was a child. He built his own running liquid rocket at age 13, and has been described as a modern-day Robert Goddard. Today he designs and builds liquid rockets for both the private and military sectors. Ken helped develop the rocket engines that will be used for the Sonic Wind land speed record attempt.

John Petri - John is the crew chief for Sonic Wind, and has been involved in land speed racing at Bonneville since 1984. John also works with Jim Feuling, who set a 293.43mph record with his motorcycle streamliner at Bonneville in November of 1997. He spent 5 years working on Kenny Lyon's motorcycle streamliner, where he met Waldo.

Chuck Rogers - Chuck, nicknamed "Buck Rogers", is one of the team's two aerodynamicists. Chuck worked on the X-30 space plane, a program which proposed to design and develop an air/space craft which could take off and land as a conventional aircraft and have a single-stage-to-orbit configuration.

Greg Winklemanns - Greg is the team's other aerodynamicist, and has previously done classified work for the government.

Larry Hayes - Larry built the spaceframe sections of the Sonic Wind rocket sled. He owns Larry Hayes Off Road Fabrication, specializing in the construction of off road racing vehicles.

Jim Deist - Jim is the team's parachute system expert. Jim is a leader in safety equipment for land speed record racing.

Jeff Teaford - Jeff designed Sonic Wind's steering system, and has also done art work for the team.
