Every month or so we will bring you a piece of Land Speed Racing history on this page.
In 1937, the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) was formed to supervise 'hot rod' activity at the Muroc dry lake bed in California. Meets were held four times a year.
Most of the historical information presented on this site comes from a new book on the history of Land Speed Racing titled "Man Against the Salt," written by Harvey Shapiro. For more than twenty years, Shapiro was a full-time, national award-winning journalist, primarily a sportswriter with a passion for motorsports in general and land speed racing in particular.
The 464 page book can be ordered for just $14.95 + $1.95 shipping & handling.
