Process Analysis Essay

how a Guy Can Get a Teacher to Like Him on the First Day of School

The first day of school is very important for laying down the foundation for a strong student-teacher relationship. It is very important that you get your teachers receive a strong impression from you on the first day of class, because that impression will carry you through the rest of the school year. In order to accomplish this task, there are many steps to take and rules that must be followed. By following these rules on the first day of class, you will be on all of your teachers good side, and it will start your year off on a positive note.
The first step that must be taken even before you leave your house to go to school is that you must make sure that you are appropriately dressed. Wearing nice respectable clothes on the first day of school lets your teachers know that you are a nice, respectable kid, who understands that their teacher is a higher authority, and deserves to be treated that way. If you arrive to class wearing raggedy old clothes, or wearing little or no clothes, it will show your teacher that you dont have any respect for them or their class, and will immediately send out a bad impression on your teacher. I personally recommend a nice pair of khaki shorts with a belt, along with a clean T-shirt, or possibly a colored polo T-shirt, and a clean pair of sneakers.
After choosing the appropriate clothing, it is then most important that you arrive to class on time, or maybe even a little bit early. I recommend that the appropriate time to arrive at class is about 20-45 seconds before the bell will ring. You do not want to show up too early, for example two minutes, for a few reasons. One, the teacher may not even be in the classroom yet, so you would be standing at the door by yourself looking like a nerd. Second, if the teacher sees you there that early he or she may think of you as a suck up or a goody-goody, and some teachers do not like that. One way you can tell if a teacher is annoyed or doesnt like how your acting is if he or she is hesitant to call on you when you raise your hand, or if he or she denies a request to leave the classroom for a drink or bathroom break. Third of all, if the teacher is at the classroom already, and no one else is, you may be forced into having a somewhat awkward conversation with he or she, in which you may not know what to say and become uncomfortable, as well as show the teacher that your are nervous. It is important that you show up on time or a little early because it shows that you care about school, about the class, and that you have respect for the teacher. Showing over five minutes late to class on the first day of school is a complete insult to the teacher, and it also disrupts whatever the teacher might be in the middle of explaining. I say five minutes, because on the first day you may have a little trouble finding the classroom. Once you arrive at the classroom it is important that you select a good seat. You should select a seat that is near the middle, but somewhat towards the front. This shows that you want to pay attention, and that you really want to take in what the teacher is discussing. If there are friends in your class, you may also want to take a seat near them, so youre not miserable all year, but not too close, because you may find yourself conversing and not paying attention, or even worse, getting in trouble. Make sure that the seat you select isnt too far in front because, once again you dont want the teacher to think that you are a suck up. Also, a lot of the more nerdy kids sit up in the front row. Once you have arrived on time, and found a good seat, you are in prime position to engage in your student-teacher relationship.
The next very important step that must be taken in order to get your teacher to like you on the first day of school is that you must make sure that your manners are appropriate for the duration of the class. Having good manners on the first day of school, once again shows your teacher that you respect him or her, and that you are really interested in participating in his or her class. Here is a number of ways in which you can display your polite manner. Make sure that you do not congregate with your friends while the teacher is talking or making any sort of contact with the class. You should always be attentive and make the teacher think that you are truly interested in what they have to say, even if you are completely somewhere else in your head. As long as your eyes are focused on the teacher, you can do whatever you want inside your head. I personally enjoy thinking about the new upcoming girls in the grades below me. Raising you hands and answering questions is also a key tactic that you can use in order to get on the teachers good side. Another tool you could use is possibly cracking a joke or saying something that would make the class laugh as well as the teacher. It is important, however that you make a joke that is appropriate for school, and that it does not offend anyone in the classroom, especially the teacher. It is also important that you make the joke at the correct time. You do not want to make a joke that would interrupt the teachers lesson, or interrupt any student that was speaking. Try making a joke when the teacher has just come to a conclusion on what he or she was saying. Another possible trick that you could use, that is one of my personal favorites, is to always make sure that if you make eye contact with your teacher, especially if it is a woman, to always smile and make it look like you are enjoying their class.
The final piece needed to complete your mission is having an appropriate exit of the class. If you happen to take a look at the clock and notice that there is only a few minutes left in the class, try to prevent yourself form packing up your things. On any other day it is ok to pack up a little early, but on the first day of school you might want to wait until the bell rings, or until your teacher tells you it is ok to do so. When the bell finally does ring, try to be relaxed when you leave. I know that you might be excited that class is over, and you want to rush out and talk to your friends, but I recommend that you try to calm yourself down and leave the classroom somewhat in the middle of the other students in the class. Rushing out tells the teacher that you do not really want to be in her class anymore, and staying late can again force awkward conversation with your new teacher. Following these specific instructions will benefit you in many ways that you would not expect. If your teacher likes you, he or she may be more lenient on late homework or missed assignments. He or She may give you an extension, or if the assignment isnt that important, your teacher may even let it slide. Also, a very important advantage that this might give you is that if your grades are borderline your teacher can give you the extra boost you might need. For example, an 89 average can go from a B+ to an A. By taking these important steps, you will be on a great start towards creating a positive student-teacher relationship.
