I have always enjoyed being a writer. Since nursery school up to now, writing has been one of my more enjoyable tasks to complete, unless it had to do with historical research. There were a few reasons why I decided to take this class. The first reason was a very common one among students, which was my guidance counselor, told me that it was a good idea to take a writing class, and that advanced composition was an enjoyable one to take. The other reason why I took this class was because, I wanted to take a class that strictly was about writing. I wanted to take a class that�s main purpose was to develop your writing skills and abilities, and taking advanced composition sounded like a good way to do so.
I like writing the most, when I am able to create my own fictional stories based on my ideas. When I was in pre-school, I remember that I had written a whole series of books called The Dolphin Adventures. These stories were about a dolphin, and how he lived his life, and the adventures he experienced on the way. The recurring plot of the stories was, that the dolphin would usually get into some kind of trouble in the beginning of the book, and as the stories progressed he would meet these new friends that would help him solve his problems. Usually, the troubles would be related to an evil character, such as a shark or a whale, and the way the dolphin would escape from this trouble would be to battle his enemies. Throughout my pre-school career, I think I wrote about 10 stories of The Dolphin Adventures.
There are many things about writing that I don�t like. When I am forced to do a writing assignment for school about researching a historical figure, or reading articles and writing about them, I tend not to do as well on them because I do not enjoy writing them. Last year, for my A.P. European History class, I wrote a 26 page paper all about the French Revolution. I remember it being one of the most difficult, time consuming, and uninteresting piece of writing that I ever written. Although, despite the fact that I hated it so much, I did get a rather good grade on the assignment, but I believe that my teacher just had to give everyone a good grade because of all the time we spent on writing the assignment. Although, I do enjoy writing research papers about animals, because I find it interesting to learn about the different traits and habits or rare animals.
One aspect of my writing that I would like to improve on is writing essays about a book that my class had just finished reading, and explaining how certain themes that are given by my teacher, relate to the book. I would like to improve on this because, last quarter I had some difficulty on some of the essays that we were required to write in class, although I did not feel that I deserved the grades that were given to me. Another reason why I want to improve on this is because, this is a very popular task to be assigned for school, and I have had to write a great deal of these essays in the past, and I probably will have to write more in the future.
Hopefully while taking this class, I am able to find the writing assignments that are assigned to be interesting, because therefore I will be able to find them more enjoyable. I also hope that by taking this class I am able to get a good understanding of how I should write essays for applying to college. I am looking forward to taking this class so that I could improve my writing skills, and enjoy doing it.
