"Train up a child in the way he should go;
and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Number one Question about Homeschooling
"What About Socialization?"

"Socialization" is probably the most often asked question in regards to homeschooling.
Many believe that homeschooling hurts the social development and well being of our children. Nothing could be further from the truth! As parents we provide a stable, loving and beneficial social environment for our children. Funny to think about it, but what if when we heard a friend of ours was sending their kids to any school and we asked,
"What about Socialization with other children?" :-)
When we say our son is a "special needs" child. It seems more acceptable. It is almost like they need a viable reason to accept our calling to teach our children.
I for one will prayerfully ask for guidance when speaking to non-homeschooled families. No one is right here or wrong. We need to educate all non-homeschoolers about this issue, as we hear from people who will question our decision to homeschool. We all make the decisions for our family, with the help of our Lord, and I do not think Homeschooling is for everybody.
In our area a classroom of 20 or more students are in each class. Peer pressure causes children to make bad decisions for the sake of impressing their friends and to remain part of the in crowd.
If your child has any special needs, at home he/she will not wear any labels. Think about that. No special reading classes for "those" kids. No being pulled out of a class in front of all their peers for math or reading assistance. Just because your child does not attend public school does not mean that he has to be deprived of quality social interaction. There are several opportunities out there for your child to learn his/hers social graces!

A great answer to the questions about the socialization of our children is,
"Yes, we are very concerned about our child's socialization.
That is why we have chosen to homeschool!"
