Mission Projects for Homeschoolers
Christian Service Projects are
an important part of Biblical/spiritual training. Here are a few simple ways to get your homechooler involved in Mission work.
-
Children can visit church members
that are homebound. They can bring pictures that they have colored, crafts
they have made and cookies that they helped bake. If your church has a
tape ministry, they can help distribute the sermon tapes to the homebound.
-
Children can visit nursing homes
bearing the above gifts. They can also sing songs, put on short skits and
puppet shows.
-
You can obtain lists of missionaries
from your home mission board and your foreign mission board. The child
can send cards and notes of encouragement as well as pictures that they
have colored to brighten up the day of the missionary. Some mission boards
provide the birthdays of their missionary, in which case the child can
send homemade birthday cards.
-
Whenever you go to the store,
you can pick up an extra item like a tube of toothpaste, soap, shampoo
etc. and explain to the child that missionaries need these things to give
to people who don't have them. Then let the child help pack and send the
items to missionaries.
-
If you have an elderly neighbor,
an older preschooler can help out by assisting with housework, pet care
etc.
-
The child can assist when it is
time to go through outgrown clothing. It is important to stress that we
need to give what we can to those less fortunate. You need to emphasize
the fact that we do not give our "junk" away to the needy but only items
that are in good shape that can be used again.
-
Most importantly, your child needs
to see you actively involved in Christian service.
