Choosing a Popular Diet

Menu #1

Choosing a diet from one of the popular ones, is a simple way to get started. Most have menu plans that you can follow. Luckily, many professionals have done most of the work. Also, these diets are supported by many recipes, and the ingredients are usually available.

Here is a start with some of the current diets and their menus

  • Weight Watchers offers a balanced diet, recipes and motivation
  • The Atkins Diet by Robert Atkins MD is the low carb
  • South Beach Diet by Arthur Agatston MD is a nutritional balance diet with recipes
  • The Dr's Heart Cure by Al Sears MD Low carb and fitness some recipes
  • The Zone Diet by Barry Sears is a 40/30/30 :: carb/prot/fat
  • Reversing Diabetes by Julian Whitaker MD is a high carb low fat
  • Finally: personally design diet by a nutritionist or a dietician. This will enable you to make your own decisions and adjust for results along the way. Nutritionists could also track vital statistics along the way.
Once you decide on a specific diet, we can start choosing recipes, ingredients and complete menus. Now I can figure out how a week's dinner plan will come together. You can also start to figure out where special effort is going to be needed. Is it hard to eat on a diet at work? Are you rushed in the morning and need a snack on your way?

This is where I come in! Getting your diet taken care of, so you can stay focused on motivation and fitness. [more, healthy eating ...]

Ethnic and Seasonal Menus

summerfruit

My ethnic background together with travels around the world, has left an imprint on my cooking. Add the seasons in New England and you get a large combination of recipes. Some of the recipes would be familiar, some a bit exotic.

  • Mediterranean: Israeli cuisine is influenced by Arab, Turkish and Greek dishes.
  • Latin & Caribbean: Cuban and South American cuisine from my family's background is influenced by Caribbean, Italian and Mexican dishes.
  • California cuisine: from vegetarian and organic influences to farm fresh ingredients in markets and roadside stands.

Menu Assembly

My Pyramid

An important personal chef service is menu assembly. Assembling a personal menu is a creative undertaking. It is also a useful tool when planing a diet program. Menus for a cook are a bridge between the theoretical ideas and the real food. Strangely enough, this area of nutrition and diet has very few resources for the "common" dieter. There are a few tools that are useful, but for the most part, this is something you need to do by yourself, or hire someone to help you with. For diet and nutrition tools take a look at the Yahoo nutrition directory.

I welcome any direction and support from your nutritionist, fitness or medical professional.

The US Department of Health has taken the overall menu issue and created the famous "pyramid". Recently, an update is designed to be more personal. Take a look at "my pyramid".
