Cooking Confidence
Learning how to cook will make you confident in the kitchen. Shopping and preparing simple dishes will give you comfort about food. The mystery and fear of food and nutrition will turn into skills and knowledge. Food and preparation knowledge help tremendously in following a healthy diet. So, if you are serious about learning, I can help you get started.
Let's get started ... Cooking classes come in three categories:
- Basic cooking techniques: How to follow a recipe with fundamental cooking techniques (i.e. stove-top, broiling, saute, boiling). This will give you basic techniques that apply to any diet or ethnic cuisine.
- Essential ethnic cooking: how to cook Italian, French, American, Asian / Indian or Mediterranean. What constitute a simple menu, recipes, sauces, etc. Prepare a few dishes and put together a few menus.
- Personal lessons: Get you started and confident in the kitchen. Pick a menu or some recipes, we go over everything from shopping, preparation, serving to entertaining.
Gain Skills
One of the best way to learn cooking is by doing. Handling food, cooking and serving is easy with guidance. The basic cooking techniques have been taught for centuries, the key areas you can learn:
- Recipes: organization, how-to, terms and language, recipes for health.
- Methods & Techniques: broiling, boiling, frying, roasting and baking ... and microwaving!
- Combining & serving: adding prepared ingredients, leftovers and serving ...
- Sauces: hot, cold, dressings, prepared, blended ...
- Eating and cooking healthy: basic ingredients, nutrition and diet.
- Packing & Storage: cooling, freezing, packing and heating.
Cooking in many cultures is a community activity. Make it a family affair by inviting a few people, have plenty of ingredients and utensils and make a big feast for everyone.
