...But Jack barely has time to be amused. Because just behind Cal and Ruth on the stairs is Rose, a vision in red and black, her low-cut dress showing off her neck and shoulders, her arms seethed in white gloves that come well above the elbow.  Jack is hypnotized by her beauty.
(TITANIC)

The Dinner dress

The "Dinner dress" has its name from the Scene in which it was worn by the principal actress's Kate Winslet- the Saturday evening dinner on the Titanic. It can also be seen on these sites in the background.
This dress was additionally worn in the final Scene when Rose "returns" to the Titanic and Jack can put her into his arms again.
It is one and the same dress, with the exception, that the upper part of the top is deposited instead of chiffon on the white dress with lace.
The dress is beaded with lots of sequins and pearls which are arranged on the black (or white, depending on the color of the dress) chiffon in layers. The dress is curled up at the left front body half. This gives the impression that the dress is at an angle.
In addition, the dress has an approx. 40 cm long train, not on the backside but on the left side. Who paid attention at the movie knows that the dress can be worn at this side attached to the arm with a little ribbon, e. g. for dancing. This gives a better possibility to move around.

On THIS SITE you will find now pictures of our Dinner dress!

Here you can see some pictures of the original dress in the two colors:

The following explanations seem particularly important to us:
In the left middle part of the picture you can see very well how the train of the dress is attached to the arm while dancing. The backside of the dress can be never seen in the movie. We owe the only pictures which we have of the backside of the dress to Zelda Gilbert of the Costumers Guild west. They were taken on the touring exhibition of the film properties. You can find her site on the "Link" site.
You will find the single pictures (not all, but the best ones) at this link. Hardly any text there, however just many pictures!
