Tarot Card Spreads

There are many different patterns in which the tarot cards can be positioned ,these patterns are called spreads and can be used for both general and specific readings . Spreads can basically start off from using one card , to find an answer to a question perhaps , but the more specific the reading and the more information is required the reader will use more cards and different spreads accordingly . In this section I will be illustrating some of the simpler spreads which I hope will be beneficial to the novice reader .

The Three Card Spread

This is perhaps the simplest spread of all , as the reader lays out three cards the first to represent the past , the second to represent the present and the third to represent the future .An example is shown below , the first card , the nine of swords ,tells us that in the past there have been some problems and a lot of anxiety .The second card , Temperance , tells us that the situation has improved, many of the past worries are now fading away and life is becoming more harmonious .The third card, the Sun , tells of future happiness , perhaps financial security , a new romance , generally better times lie ahead .

The Cross Spread

The cross spread is probably the spread most often used by not only the novice reader but also perhaps among a large proportion of established readers .The popularity gained of this spread is most likely because it is a relatively simple spread that the inquirer can often follow without any large degree of difficulty. This spread is suitable for both general and specific readings and is made up of 6 cards , with each card representing a different stage in the reading  as shown in the following example .

 4

2                    5                   3
1
                                                                                                                  6
Five of the cards are placed in the shape of a cross,
and the sixth is left off to the side .The reader starts off  with the card numbered 1 in the example and then each of the other cards in numerical order and then finishes with the 6th card which will provide the eventual outcome of a specific question or in a general reading it would show the final outcome of the questioner's life .The meanings of all of the cards in this spread  fit together much like jigsaw pieces with the sixth card being the last piece that shows the full picture .There are many other tarot spreads , including the horoscope spread which is perhaps one of my favorite spreads .I will add a page showing the horoscope page next as although it may look very daunting to the novice reader it is not as hard as it look and when you are fully accustomed to using your cards , you will find all the spreads will start to flow  much easier.
