Plot -
Mystique is on the run from a group of ninjas, wishing to capture her. She manages to
throw them off, but transforming herself into Sabretooth. Meanwhile, on the other side of
New York City, three former X-Men, after the team recently seperated, Rogue, Shadowcat,
and Nightcrawler, head out for a night on the town. Nightcrawler, in his image-induced
form, excuses himself, hoping to spend the night in solitude. Meanwhile, the ninjas gather
their strength in a submarine in the bay. They are revealed as theYakiba, literally
"cutting edge" in Japanese. At the club, Rogue and Shadowcat are dancing when
Rogue is approaching by a man. He touches her, and Rogue instinctively throws him across
the room. But the man is not really a man, but Mystique. Meanwhile, Nightcrawler visits on
old touch, hoping to find his connection to God once more. There is another person in the
church, a woman who he finds familiar. He approaches her, but Lorna Dane, the former X-Man
known as Polaris, runs away screaming not recognizing Nightcrawler in his
"human" form. He teleports outside, hoping to catch her. And when he does,
Polaris reveals why she is so jumpy: someone is following her. In an abandoned factory not
far away, Mesmero and Mastermind (who are really Skrulls in disguise) talk about
destroying Mystique once and far all, but decide to let the Yakiba do their work for them.
Above the city, Mystique takes Rogue and Shadowcat to one of her homes, this one an
apartment she owns as B. Byron Biggs, a billionaire recluse. Mystique asks Shadowcat to
scout the perimeter, while she tells Rogue of her recent adventues as Ronnie Lake,
super-model. Her career was cut short by the Yakiba ninjas, who forced her to compromise
her identity. Mystique asks Rogueto help her out, find out what the Yakiba want from her.
Meanwhile, Nighcrawler and Polaris talk about Havok, Polaris's lost love who is believed
to be dead. Finally, Rogue makes her way to "Ronnie's" apartment and finds it
ranshaked. Suddenly, the alarm goes off, and Rogue is surrounded by ninjas, who believe
that Rogue is indeed her mother, Mystique. Rogue throws most of them off, but then she is
confronted by someone she least expects: Sunfire! |
