Ooo Baby!

It's my Peavey Reactor!

If you've read about my "Black Beast" (the El Degas Les Paul copy), you'll know that I added a lot of Gibson parts to the guitar. When I got the Strat, the only change I made was to replace the bridge pickup.

I mention this because soon after buying the Strat, I got GUITAR LUST! It was no longer enough to finally own a Strat; instead, I had an urge to add to my collection! Since I'm not making any money from music, I couldn't justify a buying spree. But when I bought my Strat in to have the pickup changed, I couldn't help checking out the Fender Telecasters. Such nice guitars, and different enough from Strats to make sense to buy one.

But like I said, I couldn't justify spending $500+ for a Tele. So I simply did a lot of looking. One day, I was in a pawn shop, and a black Tele caught my eye. A closer look showed that it wasn't a Fender after all. It was a Peavey Reactor. It looked sturdy enough, so I filed it away for future reference. Thanks to the Internet, I found plenty of positive reviews of the guitar.

A month later, I bought it for $250 Canadian (case included). In theory, this was a used guitar, but I strongly suspect the pawn shop got it direct from a shop closeout because it was in mint condition.

Now I've tried a lot of Fender Teles before and after buying the Reactor, and I can say this guitar surpasses any of the Mexican made Teles (even the new Standards). Please note that this is an AMERICAN-made Reactor. Peavey discontinued this model (WHY?!), and has since brought out a line of Asian made Reactors. There IS a difference.

The plan was to replace most of the bits with Fender parts. However, I had the guitar looked over by a knowledgeable Tele fan, and he said there was nothing that needed to be changed. Even the pickups were as potent as any stock Fender Tele pickups!

So nothing gets changed. I can't complain!

Comments and recommendations are certainly welcome.
