The Castaways is SGF's 4th movie. Although some parts of it are humorous, most of the movie can only be known as a bust. This 15-minute feature, created on the same tape as The Scarier Than Scary Movie, has few special effects, bad camera angles, and a weak story line (You must remember that this movie was filmed in our early days of film making.) Other than that it is a great film.
The Castaways introduces a new SGF character, Our Hero, who is the hero of the story. He is peacefully boating along in the ocean one day when a Mean Old Lady pulls the ocean's plug and drains out the water. Our Hero blacks out, and when he wakes up he finds himself stranded on an uncharted island. He somehow finds a voice-activated shovel and attempts to dig himself a shelter. Unfortunately it collapses, so Our Hero climbs a tree and flags down a passing air transport. He is spotted and rescued, but the plane gets caught in a storm and crashes. Once again Our Hero finds himself to be an official castaway. He survives the hardships of the wilderness for 400 years and makes a new friend, Ugine the giant volleyball a.k.a. the other castaway. An accident quickly occurs and Ugine is killed. 400 more years later Our Hero dies. By this time he is very hairy and he moves when he is dead. It is a sad ending, the saddest in an SGF Film.
This film was on the same tape that SGF's first special features were on. In the beginning there is a preview for The Scarier Than Scary Movie, and at the end the famous SGF Critics are introduced for the very first time. Each Critic gave this film two thumbs up. |
