These are the "partial" blocks" |
....
These are the "complete" blocks. |
| To get this design, you need to
have an odd number of the strip set and plain "partial"
blocks in the rows across and down.
|
This quilt is 11 "partial" blocks
across and 15 "partial"
blocks down.
Say you use 2 inch strips for your strip sets... That will give you 1 1/2 inch strips after sewing off the seam allowances... Times 3 strips... will give you an "unfinished" strip set and matching plain block that is 5 inches. But because you take off the two seam allowances the "finished" "partial" blocks will be 4 1/2" inches. So, take the number of blocks across or down and multiply times 4.5 and you will get the size of your quilt..... 4.5" times 11 blocks across = 49 1/2".
This finished quilt would then be:
You can add any number and size of borders to bring the quilt up to a larger size. |
| To get this square quilt design,
you need to have an odd number of rows across and down of the "partial"
blocks.
|
For example,
this quilt on the left is 11 "partial"
blocks across and 11 "partial"
blocks down.

So, take the number of blocks across or down and multiply times 4.5 and you will get the size of your quilt..... 4.5" times 11 blocks = 49 1/2" both ways. This finished quilt would then be:
You can add any number and size of borders to bring the quilt up to a larger size. |
| I'll give you a few samples and then a math chart so you can figure out your special size quilt and fabric needs. | Yes, you can do that... you have to learn how to figure out your own sizes! Trust me... open your mind before you open your pocketbook. If you learn to figure this stuff out your own, you won't be so dependant on the only size of quilts in the directions. |
| 1) If you cut your strip width for the strip sets these widths below: | 2) You get the finished block size below: | 3) A square quilt will need this many rows: | 4) A rectangle quilt will need this many rows: |
