Childhood Obesity in Canada has increased steadily over the past two decades. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey results shows that 15% of children aged 6 to 11 and 15% of adolescents aged 12-14 are overweight (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2001). Childhood obesity is a health condition that often continues into adulthood. Adult obesity is associated with significant health risk including hypertension, type 2 diabetes and heart disease (Moran, 1999). Treatment of obesity is rarely met with long term success as 90-95% of people who loose weight will eventually regain it, therefore prevention is the most effective way of treating obesity.
