Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent childhood neurobehavioral disorders affecting children. Approximately 3 to 7 % of children are affected by this disorder. ADHD was previously referred to as attention deficit disorder and in 1994 was replaced with ADHD and divided into three categories. The three categories are predominantly hyperactive, predominantly inattentive and a combined type Some of the characteristics displayed in hyperactivity children are fidgetiness, difficulty engaging in low key activities, excessive talking, and are defined as constantly on the go (Isaacs, Watkins, Hodgens and Zachor, 2002). Children with ADHD often experience outbursts and are lacking a general sense of self-control. Many children are believed to be bad or the trouble-makers as much as this may be the case they are not entirely responsible for their actions. The cause of ADHD is not entirely understood there are many speculations on what causes it as well as many different treatments. The treatments range from medical, to herbal remedies, to vitamin supplements. The main areas that children with ADHD experience the most problems are in school, at home and in social interaction. There are many battles to be waged when I child has ADHD but they are intriguing children and time spent with them is well worth it.
