Part ten: Revelations

She was dying inside. She tried to find him the next day, but wherever she looked, he wasn't there. She finally bought her ticket to
London. She looked for the rest of the month for him. But yet, he was no where to be found. It was finally the last day. She gathered her things and left for the train station, which would take her to the docks. She looked around in her carriage. Everywhere she looked, she remembered something that they shared. A kiss on the corner, a warm embrace at the café, a smothering kiss under the gas lamp, where ever she passed, he was there. She finally got to the station. She sat on a bench at the boarding area. Every time she heard something, she thought it was him. Finally, it was time to go. She got up and started climbing the stairs to the train. She looked behind her and something hit her. Leaving Montmarte would mean leaving what she wanted so badly. Leaving a life that she longed for. Leaving her new friends and most important, a new love. She walked down the stairs and started walking back out of the station. She was staying, no matter where she lived. She walked back and hailed a carriage. She gave the driver directions and she was off back to Montmarte.

She walked up the stairs to his garret and ran to his door. She pounded and pounded on the door until it opened. There he stood, a dirty undershirt on, suspenders, a pair of dirty pants, and it was obvious that he hadn't shaved for a while.

"Christian, I can't leave. I can't leave you or this place or anything else. And I've already ruined my reputation and it doesn't matter now. The only thing that matters is you and that I love you and I pray to god that I haven't ruined the best thing I've ever had," she said quickly. He looked at her coldly. She looked at him back, with big eyes. They began to shrink and she turned her back to gather her things. It was obvious that he didn't want her. As she began to walk away, she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned around and saw him. She searched his face and he put his hands on her cheeks. He brought her mouth to his and kissed her ever so slightly. He felt her lip quiver under his. She broke away and threw herself in his arms. She began sobbing. He just stood there and held her. "Christian, I couldn't bring myself up to it. I didn't want to tell you that I had to leave because it hurt so much and I'm so happy that you're forgiving me and I promise never, ever to hurt you again," she said, sobbing into his shoulder. He held her closer.

"It's alright, Emma," he whispered. She brought her head up and looked at him. "Here, let's get your things in," he said, picking her up. She held his neck as he walked her into the small flat. He placed her gently on the bed, then went to go get her things. When he came back, there was a new look to him. Like he was obligated to doing this. She got up and started getting her things.

"You don't have to do this," she said with dignity. Before she could reach the door, he blocked her way.

"I want to do this," he said. She looked at him and put her bags down. He walked up to her and took her hand. "Do you know how much I missed you? How hard I wanted to say I'm sorry?" he said to her. Her eyes softened. He could finally pour out what he had been holding in. He had searched everywhere for her. Yet, he couldn't find her. He looked into her eyes and kissed her. He kissed her like the first time her kissed her. With all the emotion and passion that he consumed. Unlike that time, though, she kissed back the first chance she got. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her in closer. He had never felt so happy in his life. They kissed and kissed until she finally came up for air. She leaned her forehead against his.

"I wanted to say I'm sorry as well. Christian, I can't be more than a mile away from you," she whispered. He smiled and pulled her in for another kiss.
